This is stated in the Hungarian government’s instructions for the delegation to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, which will take place in September. The document was signed by Prime Minister Péter Magyar and published in the Hungarian official newspaper Magyar Közlöny on August 25, the Telegram channel “Nastoyashchee Vremya” reports.
“Hungary condemns russian military aggression, fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, and recognizes Ukraine’s right to self-defense. Russia’s actions pose a threat to Hungary, Europe, and the global order, and also place the Hungarian minority living in Zakarpattia in serious danger, which is why we support all efforts aimed at initiating negotiations to achieve lasting peace and long-term security guarantees”, - the directive says.
The report recalls that in mid-July, Hungarian Defense Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi said that the country was “closing the door” to russia and needed to “restore trust” with its allies. He added that russian intelligence had “tried to get in through the back door”.
The previous Hungarian government under former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán maintained close ties with moscow, blocked EU sanctions against russia, criticized Kyiv, and hindered other European countries from adopting aid packages for Ukraine.
