A powerful explosion occurred at an upscale restaurant in moscow where the Commander-in-Chief of the russian Aerospace Forces was reportedly celebrating his birthday.

The death toll from the explosion at the Balzi Rossi restaurant in central moscow has risen to five, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Telegram channels Baza and Mash, which are close to russian security services.

"Two of the injured died in the hospital after suffering multiple wounds to the upper body. At least six people remain in critical condition", - Baza reported.

Initially, the cause of the incident on the evening of August 1 was said to be a gas leak. Later, russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee reported that an improvised explosive device had detonated at the entrance to the restaurant.

According to investigators, the bomb was detonated remotely. Its explosive yield was about one kilogram of TNT equivalent, and metal ball bearings packed inside the device wounded people on the restaurant's terrace.

According to reports, a woman attempted to bring the bomb into the restaurant, but a security guard stopped her. Both of them, along with one of the visitors, were killed immediately in the explosion.
