“At the moment, one side remains committed to the understandings reached in Anchorage, while the other side, it now seems possible to say, has not been entirely capable of completing its part of the path and fulfilling the agreements”, - putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said, without naming them directly but referring to russia and the United States, which, according to the kremlin’s version, allegedly agreed on a plan for settling the “conflict in Ukraine”.

According to him, moscow has therefore shifted from expecting these “understandings” to be fulfilled to pursuing complete victory. “Western analysts are advised to assess the real situation directly by following the advance of russian troops along the front line”, - Ushakov said.

According to the kremlin’s version, the so-called “Anchorage formula” envisaged U.S. consent to the transfer of the entire Donbas under the control of the russian federation, while simultaneously freezing hostilities along the existing front line in southern and eastern Ukraine.

As previously reported, in early June foreign minister Sergei Lavrov reproached the United States for lacking interest in the “spirit of Anchorage”. In reality, there is no signed or officially documented agreement containing any understandings between putin and Donald Trump regarding Ukraine allegedly reached on August 15, 2025, in Anchorage. The two sides signed neither a peace plan nor a legal agreement. The “spirit of Anchorage” is purely a metaphorical concept used by russian propaganda to describe an alleged informal understanding that the leaders supposedly reached verbally.
