Russia plans to launch a record 7,000 UAVs against Ukraine in May 05/18/2026 16:08:07. Total views 66. Views today — 66.

“The russian army has increased the intensity of strikes on Ukrainian territory, using massive waves of kamikaze drones and missiles. After two record months at the beginning of 2026, May is expected to become a new peak, with more than 7,000 drone strikes forecast for the month”, - Militarnyi reports, citing an analysis by OSINT specialist Clément Molin.

The study shows that such an abnormal number of launches does not consist exclusively of explosive munitions. About 30–40% of this volume are so-called “decoys” or false targets such as “Gerbera” and “Parodiya”. They are cheap, but perform several critically important tasks for the enemy at once: overloading Ukrainian air defense, depleting stocks of anti-aircraft missiles, and identifying the positions of radar stations. In addition, some false targets are equipped by the occupiers with relay systems and reconnaissance equipment for more precise guidance of the main strike wave while bypassing mobile fire groups.

Analysts note that the brief periods of calm in May were deceptive — russia used them to accumulate resources. The result was the largest strike of the entire full-scale war: within just one day, May 13–14, about 1,600 drones of various modifications were launched against Ukraine.

The vector of russian attacks remains systematic — an attempt to destroy the energy sector and disrupt the logistics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The main targets are transformer substations and electricity generation facilities, railway hubs and frontline transport infrastructure, oil and gas facilities and major fuel hubs, industrial zones, and logistics points near the front line.

In parallel with drones, the enemy is increasing the use of guided aerial bombs (KABs). A new anti-record has been recorded — 328 KABs dropped in a single day, the highest figure since October 2025. To understand the scale: in just 10 months of last year, russia dropped about 40,000 such bombs, fully matching the figure for all of 2024. This trend confirms that the occupiers are relying on a “scorched earth” tactic, attempting to destroy the defensive positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the use of massive and inexpensive aerial weaponry.
