“The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the European Union will provide Ukraine with the promised loan of €90 billion, despite the blocking of this adopted decision by Hungary. She said this during a press conference following the EU leaders’ summit on the night of March 20 in Brussels”, - Suspilne reports.

“The loan remains blocked because one leader (referring to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban — ed.) is not keeping his word. But let me repeat what I already said in Kyiv. We will deliver this one way or another”, - von der Leyen stated.

The head of the European Commission also recalled that the decision to provide the multi-billion loan in support of Ukraine was approved by the European Council in December 2025.

“There was one condition — that three countries (Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic — ed.) would not participate in the loan. This condition was fulfilled. Therefore, let us clearly define our position”, - she noted. In conclusion, von der Leyen stated that the European Union faces “difficult tasks”.

“But today we have strengthened our determination. It was a very good European Council”, - she added.

Earlier it was reported that EU leaders failed to convince Orban to unblock €90 billion for Ukraine.
