According to journalists, politicians discussed this issue for 90 minutes, however, they failed to convince Orban. The Hungarian prime minister still opposes the allocation of the loan. This was reported by Politico, citing four diplomats and officials, as reported by Slovo i Dilo.

It is claimed that the President of the European Council, António Costa, sharply criticized Orban’s behavior as “unacceptable” and as violating the boundaries of cooperation between EU countries.

Orban, in turn, accused his fellow leaders of caring more about Ukraine than about Hungary, and stated that this is an “existential issue” for Budapest. He also rejected claims that blocking the loan is linked to upcoming elections, calling this “completely unfounded”.

Earlier, Merz called on the EU to allocate €90 billion for Ukraine, ignoring Orban’s veto.
