The European Union is preparing a number of options to include Ukraine’s membership in future peace arrangements. It could be phased and provide Kyiv with preliminary protection. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Bloomberg.
Sources told the outlet that among the options under consideration are granting Ukraine preliminary protection during the period of accession to the European Union, as well as immediate access to certain membership rights.
In addition, other options are also being considered that provide for continuing the existing accession path or introducing a transitional period and gradual EU membership.
At the same time, according to sources, the bloc will provide Ukraine with a clear schedule of steps it must take to advance the formal procedure.
“Kyiv’s future accession to the EU is part of the discussion of a peace agreement”, - a European Commission spokesperson said in response to a Bloomberg query.
The outlet recalls that Ukraine’s draft 20-point peace plan includes its accession to the EU in 2027, with Kyiv receiving some membership benefits during the transitional period.
