The European Union approved earlier made decision for another six months to extend economic sanctions against Russia imposed because of its actions in Ukraine. It is reported by UNIAN with reference to a source in the European Council.

"Decisions on sanctions against Russia have been made", - said the statement.

As previously reported, on June 21st the European Union agreed at the level of Permanent Representatives of EU member states (COREPER) to extend the economic sanctions to January 31, 2017 "taking into consideration Russia's actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine". EU sanctions may restrict cooperation with Russian banks, restricting the import and export trade, particularly oil, gas and arms. The decision will be announced on Saturday, July 2nd in the Official Journal of the EU.
